Healthy Debate: Accelerating Cures

This week, Congress passed the 21st Century Cures Act which included many recommendations from the JKTG supported "Advancing Medical Innovation for a Healthier America" report issued by the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) and BPC's larger health innovation initiative.

Currently, researchers and developers have to spend on average $2 billion to bring a new drug or therapy to market and the regulatory process on average takes more than ten years. BPC's initiative and related report explores new policies to expand the use of key health data—also known as real-world evidence. This information can be used to augment and support traditional randomized controlled trials and post-market surveillance efforts, and reduce the time and cost of bringing safe and effective drugs to the market in the United States.

We applaud passage of this important legislation and thank BPC for its work on this issue so critical to patients.
