Using Real World Evidence to Accelerate Safe and Effective Cures

Real world data—or data reflecting the actual experiences of patients during routine care—can play a critical role in strengthening the evidence for both the safety and effectiveness of treatments across the drug development life cycle. The vast increase in the amount of data available from electronic health records, claims systems, registries, and even patients themselves offers an opportunity to change the paradigm of evidence development in the U.S. Real world data can help bring safe and effective drugs more quickly to patients in need and support new approaches for evidence generation in a future era of precision medicine. Congress and the administration are beginning to take bold steps to accelerate progress in this area.

The Bipartisan Policy Center will be joined by policy, scientific, industry, and patient leaders to discuss the science and benefits of real world evidence, as well as new recommendations to advance its generation and use, to support the development and delivery of safe and effective cures to Americans. Ted Giovanis, president of the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation for Health and Policy, will also join the conversation.
